Christina Applegate reflects on difficult upbringing: 'It's always fun to see your mum crying on the floor'

Christina Applegate has opened up about her tough childhood and teenage years ahead of the release of her memoir.

The Dead to Me star, 54, who is battling Multiple Sclerosis (MS), is set to address her life and her health in You with the Sad Eyes, out next month.

Speaking to People, the American actress reflected on what she experienced growing up, with the publication reporting she had an abusive boyfriend in her late teens, and claimed her actress mother Nancy Priddy battled a drug addiction and had a physically abusive boyfriend.

"My mum always said, 'I never met a junkie I didn't like.' And that, kind of, was how I rolled," the actress admitted.

"I think I had kind of the worst situation from [age] three to seven, but there was stuff like that going on in all our homes.

"Single mums, men coming in and out, drugs. It's always fun to see your mum crying on the floor and you not being taken care of."

Last year, Applegate revealed her dad Robert "Bob" Applegate had died and spoke about his death on her podcast, MeSsy with Christina Applegate and Jamie Lynn Sigler.

"My dad just passed away a week ago. This is the first time I've really cried," she said.

"I think kind of, like, I wasn't allowing myself to have that yet. [I was] too busy with this, too busy with that."

She hinted her father had an illness, saying, "We knew he was going to die. Is that an excuse for not feeling? Because you know that someone's gonna go, and you've said your goodbyes?"

Applegate was diagnosed with MS in 2021.

She previously revealed she has 30 lesions on her brain as a result of the illness.
