The Backstreet Boys finally explain the confusing lyrics to 'I Want It That Way'

Nineties kids, admit it -- you sang along to the Backstreet Boys' catchy tune 'I Want It That Way' even though you had no idea what 'it' was.

Well, trust the ever witty Chrissy Teigen to help us decode the lyrics, albeit 19 years later.

Over the years, the boy band has failed to explain the confusing words, but yesterday they were forced to after Teigen called out Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson on Twitter.

"'I never wanna hear you say, 'I want it that way' cause i want it that way." He doesn't wanna hear it because he is the one that wants it that way? He wants to be the one to say it? Also what is 'it'?" the mum-of-two tweeted on June 1.

When other fans got on the 'please explain' bandwagon, the Backstreet Boys had no choice but to clarify one of the most confusing lyrics of all time.

"Don't wanna hear you say that you want heartaches and mistakes... or to be 2 worlds apart," read a tweet from the boys' official twitter account. "We don't want you to want 'it' that way -- that's the way we want it... for you to not want it that way."

Finally, fans the world over can now rest easy -- and they all have Teigen to thank for that.
