Chris Martin covers Linkin Park's 'Crawling' in honour of Chester Bennington: Watch

Chris Martin delivered a moving tribute to Chester Bennington by performing a stripped-down version of Linkin Park's hit 'Crawling'.

The Coldplay frontman performed the song Tuesday night during the band's East Rutherford, New Jersey, stop on of their current North American tour.

Sitting on a stage at the center of the stadium, Chris, 40, delivered the opening notes on a piano to a near-silent crowd. As he continued on to the chorus, fans let out bittersweet cheers as they remembered Chester, who took his own life at age 41 on July 20.

'Crawling' was one of Linkin Park's earliest hits off their 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory. The Grammy-nominated album went on to sell 30 million copies worldwide.

Linkin Park has called Chester's loss "a void that can never be filled". Last week, Chester's wife Talinda Bennington penned a letter expressing both grief and a commitment to keep his memory alive.

"One week ago, I lost my soulmate and my children lost their hero-their Daddy," she began. "We had a fairytale life and now it has turned into some sick Shakespearean tragedy. How do I move on? How do I pick up my shattered soul?"

"The only answer I know is to raise our babies with every ounce of love I have left. I want to let my community and the fans worldwide know that we feel your love. We feel your loss as well. My babies are so young to have lost their daddy. And I know that all of you will help keep his memory alive. He was a bright, loving soul with an angel’s voice. And now he is pain free singing his songs in all of our hearts. May God Bless us all and help us turn to one another when we are in pain. Chester would’ve wanted us to do so. Rest In Peace, my love."
