Cher says 'someone who doesn't want anything from her' should investigate Britney Spears' conservatorship: 'Now she's the cash cow'

Cher has weighed in on Britney Spears' conservatorship battle, which has been playing out in court since 2008.

The 'Strong Enough' singer, 74, questioned whether people in Spears' circle are taking advantage of her and if they truly have her best interests at heart.

"She worked hard, was the golden goose, made lots of money, got sick, now she's the cash cow," Cher tweeted. "Does anyone who's making money off her being sick want her well!? Someone who doesn't want anything from her should look into her Dr. and her meds."

A few weeks ago, during a hearing, the 38-year-old singer's legal team had requested to remove Britney's father, Jamie Spears, as sole conservator of her business affairs — a role he has held since 2008.

"Britney is strongly opposed to James return as conservator of her person," a document filed by her court appointed lawyer said. Britney instead wants Jodi Montgomery to become her permanent conservator.

In September 2019, Jamie asked to be temporarily removed as Britney's conservator. He claimed it was so that he could focus on his health.

A judge allowed Jamie to step down from his role as conservator of Britney's personal life, but he was required to remain in control of her financial affairs. The singer's care manager, Jodi, was appointed as temporary co-conservator.

Most recently, the judge left her father's status as sole conservator unchanged. On August 22, it was decided that Britney's conservatorship will be extended until at least February 2021.

Britney's attorney has until September 18 to file a petition.
