Casey Donovan is looking for love on new dating series, calls Sydney scene 'hard work'

Casey Donovan is looking for love again.

The 30-year-old Australian singer-songwriter has signed on to the new reality dating series Blind Date. She will appear on Monday's episode of the show, airing on Network Ten.

But the Australian Idol alum doesn't think it will necessarily be an easy feat, as she told The Daily Telegraph that the Sydney dating scene is "hard work."

Her appearance on the show comes after she revealed in her recently re-released book, Big, Beautiful And Sexier, that she was the victim of a catfishing scheme, where a female friend of hers pretended to be a man named Campbell throughout their telephone relationship.

After that, putting herself out there became challenging, she told the publication.

"Considering I've never had a boyfriend and people can just put my name into Google and one of the first things that comes up is a fake relationship for six years and that I was a sex addict, which is always great to water down and explain what really happened."

She added, "Having that crushing catfishing experience to then going out into the world of real people and real boys was a massive change in my life, finding the confidence within myself to realise guys might want to date me."

But the dating series will be a chance to put those nasty "sex addict" rumours behind her as she embarks on a new journey -- one of self-acceptance and "[finding] the confidence to be proud at whatever size I am," she said.

Even bringing some levity to the premise of potentially falling in love with a complete stranger, Donovan joked that Blind Date is the "closest thing" she's got "to being the Bachelorette."
