Why Carrie Bickmore cried on radio ahead of welcoming her third child
When Carrie Bickmore broke down in tears live on air yesterday, it wasn't because of pregnancy hormones.
The 37-year-old TV and radio presenter -- who'll welcome her third child in coming weeks -- got emotional because she fears a new baby could disrupt the beautiful bond between her two older children, Ollie, 11, and Evie, 3.
"I'm very excited about my expanding family," Bickmore told listeners on her Hit Network radio show Carrie & Tommy, before starting her maternity leave yesterday. "Ollie thinks we're having a boy and Evie thinks we're having a girl, so one of them is going to be very disappointed and one very excited."
Despite conflicting views on their new sibling's gender, Ollie (Bickmore's son from her late husband, Greg Lange) and Evie (her daughter with current partner Chris Walker) remain "a little team," said Bickmore.
"They're so cute together," said the proud mum. "He never thought he was going to get a baby brother or sister and then he got a little sister, and they're seven years apart and they're joined at the hip.
"And I know families of three and I know they'll all love each other so much, but I don't want anything to happen to their bond. So it makes me a little sad," she admitted.
Last week, Bickmore also temporarily farewelled her hosting gig on The Project as she awaits the arrival of her new baby. Until then, she's making sure to spend lots of time with Ollie and Evie before they officially become a family of five.
"Love watching these two do life together," she captioned sweet snaps of the duo on Instagram. "Despite the 7 year gap they are so close. I am laying in bed at 6.30pm (gotta love maternity leave!) thinking about how their relationship might change a little when number 3 arrives. hope they stay super close."
