Fan screams words everyone was thinking to Callum Turner at Sydney premiere of new film

Sydney went full Manhattan on Tuesday night, with Hoyts Entertainment Quarter transformed into a glitzy New York City-style premiere for two massive stars.

Actor Callum Turner and director Will Gluck walked the red carpet for the premiere of One Night Only, but despite the major hype surrounding the bizarre new film, the room quickly dissolved into whispers about one thing only.

You might know Turner from his work on projects like Eternity or Masters of the Air, but if you’re with the majority of the internet, you might know him as something else.

“Mr Dua Lipa” is the name affectionately given to Turner following his recent marriage to pop superstar and holiday extraordinaire, Dua Lipa.

Of course, no one on the carpet wanted to ask Turner about his marriage. The couple kept things relatively private, and he’s there to discuss the work he’s created, not his relationship.

But that didn’t stop the room from filling with whispers about the star’s recent wedding. People theorised whether his wife would be accompanying him for the evening. Others questioned whether he would even talk about her (he did not).

But after Turner and Gluck introduced the film inside the cinema, one fan right down the front was brave enough to address the elephant in the room as the pair walked by her.

“Congratulations on your wedding to Dua Lipa!” she screamed. The cinema immediately filled with the sound of people trying not to laugh. Turner himself looked toward the floor as he let out a light chuckle.

Turner and Gluck were in town for – you guessed it – One Night Only. They’d flown into Sydney earlier in the morning and were set to leave the next day, so it had already been a whirlwind couple of hours for the duo by the time they stepped onto the red carpet.

We decided to keep things simple and lighthearted for the pair, since we figured asking them about the complexities of the modern rom-com renaissance might have been a bit cruel while they fight through their jetlag.

Just as charming as you would expect him to be, Turner was a bit confused when we explained our game to him, but he was going to give it his best shot.

In the name of the movie, we decided to ask Turner to fill in the blanks of some ‘One ___ Only’ scenarios.

We started with one song only, which we’ll admit, got a little chuckle from the star as he seemed to think we were trying to trick him into mentioning his wife.

Alas, he instead chose Come On Eileen, before asking if he could instead have an album and picking Pink Floyd’s Wish You Were Here. Don’t let Dua see that clip.

His one movie only was There Will Be Blood, which he eventually admitted he watches somewhere around five times a year. His one book only, So Long See You Tomorrow; his one holiday only, safari (with Dua Lipa, not by name but implied); and his one night only, “every night”.

Don’t worry, Turner admitted the last question was a cop out, but we let him get away with it for being such a good sport – and did we mention how charming he was?

Since Gluck is the man behind so many iconic rom-coms (Easy A, Friends with Benefits, Anyone But You and One Night Only), we had him play a round of “most likely to” across his rom-com characters.

The answers are as follows:

• Most likely to make a dramatic declaration of love: Justin Timberlake in Friends With Benefits
• Most likely to ghost someone: Justin Timberlake in Friends with Benefits (contradictory, we know)
• Most likely to win the parents over quickly: Emma Stone in Easy A

If you haven’t figured it out after reading his filmography, Gluck is low-key the master of the original modern rom-com, and One Night Only is no exception.

The story takes the audience into a world where premarital sex is outlawed in the US, except – and again, you guessed it – for One Night Only.

If you’re not sold on the film, let us assure you, it is bizarre, hilarious and, just like Turner himself, incredibly charming.

Even though Gluck manages to make an effortlessly entertaining rom-com every time, he told us they’re not as easy to make as they might look.

“It’s only about whose in it,” he said.

“So when you have someone like [Turner] and Monica Barbaro, that makes it very easy. But that’s the hardest and only thing you need to know about a rom-com.”
