Brad Pitt says he's sober following Angelina Jolie split: 'Don't want to live that way anymore'

Brad Pitt has broken his silence following his split from his wife, actress Angelina Jolie.

The 53-year-old actor stars on three covers for GQ Style's summer 2017 issue, and got very candid about how his life has changed since Angelina, 41, filed for divorce last September.

For starters, he said he's stopped drinking alcohol.

"I was boozing too much," he revealed. "It's just become a problem. And I’m really happy it’s been half a year now, which is bittersweet, but I’ve got my feelings in my fingertips again."



Brad continued, "Truthfully I could drink a Russian under the table with his own vodka. I was a professional. I was good."

Asked by the interviewer how he stopped drinking so suddenly, the World War Z star replied, "Don’t want to live that way anymore."

On September 14, 2016, The Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services and the FBI launched an investigation into Brad after he was allegedly "physically" and "emotionally" abusive to his eldest son, Maddox, 15, after drinking on the family's private plane. Five days later, Angelina filed for divorce after two years of marriage and 10 years together as a couple.



"I was really on my back and chained to a system when Child Services was called. And you know, after that, we’ve been able to work together to sort this out," he told GQ Style.

Both the FBI and Los Angeles Department of Children and Family closed their cases with no charges against Brad.

"We’re both doing our best. I heard one lawyer say, 'No one wins in court—it's just a matter of who gets hurt worse.' And it seems to be true, you spend a year just focused on building a case to prove your point and why you're right and why they're wrong, and it's just an investment in vitriolic hatred. I just refuse. And fortunately my partner in this agrees. It's just very, very jarring for the kids, to suddenly have their family ripped apart."

Angelina and Brad are also parents to children Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, 10, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 8. In the early days of the split, Brad and Angelina were embroiled in a bitter custody battle that played out in the tabloids.



"I worry about it more for my kids, being subjected to it, and their friends getting ideas from it," he said. "And of course it’s not done with any kind of delicacy or insight—it's done to sell. And so you know the most sensational sells, and that’s what they’ll be subjected to, and that pains me."

In January, Angelina and Brad agreed to use a private judge to settle their divorce out of the public eye, and Brad previously agreed to weekly supervised visits with his six children.

He told the magazine that he blamed his fierce work ethic on taking him away from his family when they needed him.

He also admitted that his personal troubles were "self-inflicted".

"Kids are so delicate. They absorb everything. They need to have their hand held and things explained. They need to be listened to. When I get in that busy work mode, I’m not hearing. I want to be better at that."
