Barry Hall says he and Lauren Brant have 'no income now' after he was sacked from Triple M

AFL great, Barry Hall, has been struggling to make ends meet after he was fired from his Triple M radio gig in June following his crude comments about a fellow AFL star's wife.

In a new interview with 60 Minutes, airing on Sunday, the former Sydney Swans captain said that he and partner, Lauren Brant, have since fallen on hard times financially and don't know when their next pay cheque will be.

"The thing is now, we've got no income now," the 41-year-old told the current affairs program. "There's no real light at the end of the tunnel of when that will change or when that will be."

The revelation comes two months after Hall was immediately sacked by Triple M for making "unacceptable" remarks about his co-host Leigh Montagna's then-pregnant wife, Erinn. When Montagna, a former St Kilda player, discussed live on air that Erinn had to undergo a membrane "sweep" to induce labour, Hall left listeners appalled when joked that the doctor behaved in a sexually inappropriate way.

"It was a bit unrehearsed. It was an off-the-cuff comment that was inappropriate for air," Hall reflected. "It shouldn't have been on the radio. It was a big c--- up'.  

At the time Hall issued an apology to Montagna and his wife, saying that as a father to 15-month-old son Miller, he should've never made those remarks.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise for any offence taken from my commentary on Friday night's Triple M footy coverage," Hall said in a statement. "It was a silly thing to say and it is not a reflection of who I am or what my views are. I am a proud father and a dedicated partner and have nothing but respect for women."

Hall's 29-year-old partner  Brant -- a former member of children's group Hi-5 -- also vouched for her partner of two years, taking to Instagram to say that the comments he made were uncharacteristic.

"Barry was involved in a silly conversation on air where he made a stupid comment.

Although it was completely wrong, it was not intended to be a malicious statement and there was absolutely no thought or substance behind it. He fully admits that it was unacceptable, completely regrets it and has done his best to apologise for the offence he has caused," she wrote.

"What I can not accept, is that he as a person is now being held as an example of what is wrong with this country in terms of its attitude towards women. He has lost his job because of it, our son and myself are being attacked… and is getting labeled as something he is not."
