Everything that happened at the 'Avengers: Endgame' world premiere

Part of the journey is the end.

But that doesn't mean The Avengers didn't go out in style. The cast, directors, producers and more of Hollywood's biggest stars turned up last night for the world premiere of Avengers: Endgame in Los Angeles, which marked a helluva goodbye to the beloved superhero franchise.

By now, it's no surprise that I'm 9Honey Celebrity's resident Marvel nerd, so it was beyond an honour to attend the premiere and talk with some of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's biggest stars.

The Los Angeles Convention Center was transformed into a stunning shrine to Earth's Mightiest Heroes, complete with a massive, revolving "A", The Avengers' iconic logo, which sat on a platform at the centre of the purple, circular carpet.

Endgame could mark the last time we see some of the actors in their iconic roles. Chris Evans (Captain America) has said previously that he's finished with the franchise, but more recently on the Endgame press tour he appeared to walk that back, if only to calm fans who are convinced his character will be killed off. And OG Avenger Robert Downey, Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man) and Chris Hemsworth (Thor) have both completed their contract obligations with Marvel Studios with the release of Endgame.
 
I asked Melbourne native Hemsworth if there's a piece of the Asgardian God that he'll always carry with him, even as he jumps into new projects, including this year's Men In Black: International.

"For me, this whole time has been about the people, and as creatively enjoyable as it's been, it's kind of like finishing high school and you look at each other and you're like, 'See you next year, mate. Yeah, hope so!' We all have such great friendships that we've formed."

But don't feel too sad, yet. Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi told me he'd be open to helming a fourth Thor film.

"I'd always be open to doing anything with these guys because I had such an amazing time. And I love working with Chris," the Wellington, New Zealand, native said.

Looking back on how far Marvel Studios has come since 2008's Iron Man, there's perhaps only one man who has truly seen it all: Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige. But even he was nervous to finally unveil Endgame to the world.

"I woke up very early this morning, like at four o'clock, which I never do," Feige told me. "And I thought it was the jet lag, because I just got back from the international tour, but I think it was just nerves!"

Being on the carpet felt a lot like a high school reunion.

Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/The Hulk) wrapped Don Cheadle (James Rhodes/War Machine) in a huge hug and gave him a peck on the cheek. Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch) fawned over Karen Gillan's (Nebula) quirky red-and-pink cocktail dress. A publicist jokingly scolded Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange's Wong) for almost giving away a spoiler.

Miley Cyrus and husband Liam Hemsworth were there to support big brother Chris, and Chris Pratt (Peter Quill/Star-Lord) and fiancé Katherine Schwarzenegger made their official red carpet debut.

Natalie Portman blessed the carpet with a surprise appearance.

This spurred fans to wonder if she'll reprise her role as Jane Foster in Endgame (the Oscar winner previously co-starred with Hemsworth in Thor and its sequel, Thor: The Dark World).

Gwyneth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), in all her Goop glory, floated effortlessly down the purple carpet and did interviews with Downey.

Inside the film screening, The Avengers once again assembled for a round of touching remarks.

"I have a lot of my friends and family here tonight, and a lot of them are right up here," said Evans said, per Variety. "We have this bond that transcends what we do for a living ... I cried like six times [tonight]."

Avengers: Endgame clocks in at an impressive three-hours and one minute. So be sure to have those tissues ready.

Early reactions from journalists who have seen Endgame have been overwhelming positive, with one calling it the "most emotional, most epic MCU film" thus far. As I am based in United States, I won't be catching the film until it opens here on April 26.

But better believe I'm ready for the end.
