Rock royalty Bob Geldof will attend the ARIA Awards after 16-year absence

The ARIA Awards just got an injection of rock royalty after it was announced this morning that Sir Bob Geldof will be attending the Australian music industry's night of nights.

The 67-year-old Irish singer-songwriter is no stranger to the ceremony -- he hosted the event in 1991, then in 2002 he presented Kasey Chambers with her Album of the Year award.

Geldof -- who is best known as for being the frontman of '70s rock band Boomtown Rats -- and Chambers will rub shoulders again tonight at the event as she will be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, along with Missy Higgins, Kate Miller Heidke, Amy Sheppard and Paul Kelly.

The rocker will walk the red carpet and also co-present the Apple Song of the Year Award with Keith Urban, who's the host for the evening.

In other ARIA news, artist of the moment Amy Shark will perform. The Gold Coast singer-songwriter is up for a whopping nine awards this year following the release of her debut album Love Monster.

"Amy Shark will be joining host Keith Urban on stage for a very special performance," TODAY entertainment editor Richard Wilkins announced this morning.
