Alaskan Bush People star Matt Brown dies age 43

Alaskan Bush People star Matt Brown has been found dead at age 43 in the Okanogan River in Washington. 

His brother, Bear Brown, confirmed the tragic news on TikTok and explained that their youngest brother, Noah Brown, was the one who identified the body after he helped pull it out of the water on May 30.  

“They found a body in the river a few hours ago,” Bear, who also starred in the reality show, explained in the video. 

“And it was positively identified as being Matt.”

Bear explained that Noah was the first family member to formally identify the body. 

Noah later shared an update about his brother’s passing in a separate social media post.

“It’s late, and I have some bad news. ... It’s been a long day,” he began in the emotional video.

“For the past couple days, I’ve been working with search and rescue groups trying to locate the body. And today, the group that I was working with located the missing body, and I identified it as Matthew.

“My oldest brother, Matthew Brown, has passed away.”

An official cause of death has not yet been determined and a coroner still has to examine the body before an official cause of death is determined, but Bear believes his brother died by suicide.

“I would’ve never suspected he would have hurt himself, honestly,” he explained. 

“He struggled for a long time, as I’ve mentioned. I was so worried he was going to end up OD’d or something like that. I didn’t think he would hurt himself. It does look as though the injury is self-inflicted.”

Bear pleaded with his followers to be respectful to his family, especially his mother , and to be mindful of the comments they leave on social media. 

“You guys should keep in mind that people on the other side of your screen,” he added.

“People that you’re watching a video of, they’re real people, too.”

He also noted that Matt received a lot of negative comments on his posts online, with one of his final videos addressing that negativity. 

A day earlier Bear shared his fears for his brother, amid reports of an incident near Washington’s Okanogan River. 

“I got some really bad news about Matt that I wanted to share with you all guys,” Bear said in a May 29 TikTok. 

“But I wanted to start out by saying that I can’t confirm that it’s 100 per cent true right now, but it is what I’m hearing. I’m being told that late last night that Matt took his own life.”

Police were called after witnesses at the scene alleged Matt may have taken his own life, before falling into the river and disappearing.

The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a press release that it received a call about a man sitting in the shallows of Okanogan river. 

The Brown family has been hit with several tragedies in recent years, including the death of patriarch Billy Brown in 2021 from a fatal seizure, and their mother Aimee Brown’s cancer battle in 2017.
