Actress Janet Montgomery reveals split from husband just 10 days after giving birth

Actress Janet Montgomery has revealed she and her husband, Joe Fox, split just 10 days after the birth of their son last year.

The New Amsterdam star, 40, said “10 months ago, my life cracked open” in a lengthy Instagram post about becoming a single mother when she was freshly postpartum.

“Last year, my life changed in a way I never could have imagined. Just 10 days after welcoming my beautiful son into the world, I found myself navigating the heartbreak of becoming a single mother to two children,” she said.

“There were moments I wasn’t sure how I would make it through the next hour, let alone the next day.

“Grief, exhaustion, fear, uncertainty, and the overwhelming responsibility of showing up for two little people who needed me no matter what.”

Montgomery and Fox, a creative director and copywriter, had been together since 2017.

They married in Jamaica in 2019, months after welcoming their now seven-year-old daughter, Sunday Juno Fox.

In her post, the British star thanked her 443,000 Instagram followers for reminding her “that even through a screen, people can show extraordinary kindness”.

“Being vulnerable online can feel frightening, but your messages, comments, encouragement, and support have often arrived exactly when I needed them most,” she said.

“You have laughed with us, cried with us, rooted for us, and carried us in ways you probably don’t even realise.”

Montgomery did not share a reason for their split, but she concluded that “this chapter has tested me more than any other in my life”.

“But it has also shown me the incredible strength that exists in community,” she said.

“Thank you for holding space for our story. Thank you for letting me share it. Thank you for helping me feel a little less alone.”

Montgomery’s acting credits include Black Swan, Entourage and Downton Abbey, though she is best known for playing Dr Lauren Bloom in medical drama New Amsterdam.

She will soon star in The Rookie: North, a spin-off of hit police drama The Rookie, expected to air in 2027.
