How I'm getting through isolation: Catriona Rowntree's newest hobby obsession

She is considered the queen of Australian TV travel but, like all of us, Getaway presenter Catriona Rowntree can't jet set around the world right now because of self-isolating regulations during the coronavirus crisis. That hasn't stopped her armchair travelling though by reliving her Getaway adventures and working on her travel website.

Apart from work, Rowntree loves a reno show and a period drama, but don't mention Tiger King — that's one show she will never watch again. She's also keeping busy on her family farm with hobbies and DIY projects.

Here Rowntree spills the tea on what else she's been doing while staying at home.

The TV show I'm bingeing: If Escape to the Chateau could be on every day, I'd be a happy chappy. I'm so invested in Dick and Angel's family and friends. Escapism and reality TV at its best.

What I want to watch next: I'm all ready for Saturday's Getaway going back to Gallipoli and each night I pray I'm in time for Fixer Upper. I actually talk to the TV offering my opinion, 'Mhmm, Love that ship lap, Jojo'.

What I've always wanted to watch but haven't had the time until now: Tiger King — and I hated it so much! I refuse to watch another episode. To think there are people that twisted out there, walking around with such offensive haircuts, it's an insult to the eyes of the animal kingdom.

What I'm re-watching: I do love to watch my Getaway travels back — Mum and I try to watch together and cry over how beautiful the world is, the great adventures we've had and pray to do all again. Other than that, I do think I've seen pretty much all the Fixer Uppers by now.

What shows my castmates have recommended: Anne With an E has me balling on my own. I'm addicted, I just love all the elements.

Most surprising iso TV discovery: The English Game. So we all loved Downton Abbey, well the creator Julian Fellowes has followed up with this adaptation of the origins of soccer. If you love sport, fine detail and romance... you're welcome!

My preferred binge-watching snack: Ah, it's more a liquid gold drink aka white wine or a stiff G&T... just being honest.

Books I'm reading: I just finished Kirsty Manning's latest, The Jewel Thief. Ahhhmazing! Also loved Anne Glenconner's Lady In Waiting, where reality is so much juicier than fiction.

Podcasts I'm listening to: I adore Goop, I love the constant learning. Oprah's Soul Sessions lift my spirits and India Hicks' chat with her mum had me bursting out with laughter whilst driving. Love my positive podcasts!

Hobbies I've taken up: Who knew I could cook! Watch out Nigella, I've a thirst for knowledge, some dangerous curves of my own and am constantly hungry. A recipe for success.

DIY project I'm attempting: I'm proud to say I've completed, with my Fresh Farmer hubby's help, a serious veggie patch. I just love watering those little lettuce leaves each day and am excited for the salads they'll create.

People I'm FaceTiming the most: I have a travel website called Journeys To Come and we are busy. Podcasts, travel trivia quizzes and interviews. Lining up a chat now with the world famous landscape designer Paul Bangay to ask about his favourite gardens, and we'll have a travel update soon with the leaders of the industry.

Go-to iso outfit: I tend to wear wool every day. I live on a merino wool, sheep station so I walk the talk... baa!

How else are you spending your days? What are you doing to maintain a sense of 'normal' during this time? Well, I'm tearing my hair out over remote learning, I'm a total failure at that, so the boys and I escape to the garden. They flip for hours on the trampoline and I garden. Don't tell their teachers.
