The sound of baby elephant ‘giggling’ is the sound of pure, unfiltered joy

We’re willing to bet you could do with a hug right now.

And, yes, we make this assumption based on the fact that you clicked on a cute baby elephant story.

But the fact of the matter is that everybody needs at least one decent hug a day.

It’s science.

Even if you’re serious enough to own multiple blazers and have one of those Newton’s Cradle things on your desk, you still have a cuddle quota to fill.

But because this is the internet and some people like their personal space (we hear you), we’re going with a hug equivalent.

And there are few better substitutes for a good, long cuddle than a little baby elephant giggling hysterically.

What you’re looking at here is a six-month-old elephant at the at Maevang Elephant Camp in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The sweet angel sounds like she’s having an absolute riot playing with her carer.

And we’ll be darned to heck if it didn’t put a big, goofy grin on your face.

Sure, some naysayers out there might sprout rubbish theories about how there's actually a baby laughing in the background, hidden from the view of the camera.

They might say the elephant isn't actually giggling. 

They might say this video is a lie. 

But we chose to believe otherwise.

We want to live in a world where elephants' laughter sounds just like a human baby giggling madly, even if that means lying to ourselves. 

And we urge you to join us. 

This video might not be a big ‘ol bear hug, but this is just as potent and won't leave you smelling like your great aunt’s perfume.
