'Singing road' closed after causing 'psychological torture'
An unusual musical bid to improve road safety in the Netherlands has been abandoned after residents complained of “psychological torture”.
The City of Leeuwarden placed asphalt strips on a motorway that would play a tune when driven over at the correct speed, reports the BBC.
The 'singing road' played the anthem of the Friesland region when a car drove at 60 kilometres per hour.

"I'm going nuts. You can't sit outside and you can't sleep at night", resident Sijtze Jansma told RTL News.
"It’s simple, the Frisian national anthem is fun, but not 24 hours a day."

Another resident said cars were going faster to see if the song played at double speed, according to the BBC.
Officials have closed the ‘singing road’, just one day after it had been officially opened.
They will remove the strips later this week.
