Cricketer Ash Gardner breaks silence on moment ex-wife exposed teammate affair
Australian cricketer Ash Gardner has broken her silence on her alleged affair with teammate Georgia Voll, two months after her estranged wife, Monica Wright, exposed the romance on Instagram.
Gardner, 29, who is vice-captain of the national women’s team, told CODE Sports she didn’t think the alleged affair would garner so much public interest.

She admitted it was a “naive” way of thinking and said the scandal has “tarnished” her reputation.
“I certainly didn’t expect the situation to take the path that it did, or to become as public as what it did,” she told the outlet.
“Over this last period, I’ve obviously had time to reflect on what’s happened and making sure to have those conversations with the people that I’ve needed to, whether that’s internally and just focus on moving forward for the team.”
Gardner confessed she was “surprised” when ex-wife Wright exposed the alleged affair on social media in July.
Wright posted a photo of Voll, 23, to Instagram with the caption, “This is who my wife cheated on me with”, a move which kicked off the messy cheating scandal.
Voll has not commented on the allegation.
“I can understand, obviously, [Monica’s] perspective. So for me, it was trying to, I guess, stay positive in what was a pretty tricky time with this being so public and probably going further than maybe what I thought, so maybe that was me being a little bit naive,” Gardner said.
She added that she tried to find the “good in the situation” and has been focused on being the best teammate she can in the months since the scandal erupted.
Gardner met Wright on a dating app in 2020, proposed in 2024, and they tied the knot in April the following year.

By mid-2026, rumours of a split were swirling and Wright confirmed them when she exposed Gardner’s alleged affair with her teammate.
Gardner retained her position as vice-captain of the national team despite the affair and public outcry.
Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg defended the decision in August, calling Gardner “a highly regarded leader in our system” while also confirming the team had been aware of the alleged affair for “a period of time”.
Gardner also addressed the alleged affair in an Instagram post at the time.
In it, she said her separation from Wright was a personal matter and that she was grateful Cricket Australia had decided to support her continued leadership.

“I am grateful for the time Monica and I shared and sorry for the pain this has caused. I wish her nothing but happiness and success in the future,” she wrote.
"I won't be making any further public comment on this matter at this time and ask that the privacy of those involved is respected."
