A parody, precious: Andy Serkis brings back Gollum to mock Brexit

Team Pickle

Andy Serkis has resurrected one of his most iconic characters to issue a savage mockery of the ongoing Brexit saga in his native UK.

A new anti-Brexit advertisement features the actor dressed as British Prime Minister Theresa May – complete with all the mannerisms of the tragic, repulsive Gollum from Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings movies.

"May" is portrayed as arguing with herself in Gollum's signature style after she is handed a copy of her Brexit agreement.

"We takes back control," Serkis-as-May hisses. "Money. Borders. Laws. Blue passportses!"

But a second personality, mimicking Serkis's portrayal of the more-compassionate "Smeagol" side of Gollum, disagrees.

"No, it hurts the people. Makes them poorer," this voice whimpers.

During the argument, "May" goes on to label the opposition to Brexit as the work of "stupid, tricksy Remainers".

The video ends with a caption calling for a people's vote on the issue.

Ms May – the real one – today postponed a parliamentary vote on her Brexit deal, leaving the agreement and her position in jeopardy.
