A young paraglider has died after he smashed into a house in the Perth suburb of Yanchep.

Witnesses say the pilot took off in bushland just across the road from a suburban street before a gust of wind caught him and brought him down at 3.30pm this afternoon.

They told 9NEWS the paraglider was in the air for only a short amount of time before spiralling out of control and coming into contact with the roller door of a house's garage.

"We were watching and the next minute the whole thing started spinning, and he was spinning and spinning out of control, spinning extremely fast," one woman told 9NEWS.

Emergency services were called and arrived on scene promptly but were not able to revive the man, who was taken to Joondalup Hospital, where he was declared dead.

Police are now investigating what caused the crash.

The young man was in a powered paraglider, or paramotor, a popular recreational sport in Western Australia.
