Murder probe underway after woman, 31, found dead in Sydney home after meeting online date

Murder squad officers are investigating after the body of a 31-year-old woman was found in a home in Sydney's west.

Emergency services were called to a home on Borrowdale Way in Cranebrook, Penrith, at 2.30pm yesterday, after a woman was found with serious injuries.

She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

It's believed she was in the company of a man that she'd met on a dating app.

Homicide detectives have "a number of lines of investigation," NSW Police said today.

"We don't believe this is a random act and potentially that the victim and somebody else are known to each other," Acting Supt John Nelson from Nepean Police Area Command, said.

"She's returned to the location in the early hours of the morning and at some point between then and 2.30pm something has happened to this poor young lady."

Police have been told the woman was staying at the house, which belonged to friends.

Occupants of the house are helping with inquiries, Nelson said.

One neighbour told 9News they were "gobsmacked".

Investigators are appealing for anyone who saw any suspicious behaviour in the area in the early hours of Sunday to contact Crime Stoppers.
