She died yesterday afternoon, police confirmed to 9NEWS this morning.

Ms Tran, 30, was arrested on Friday and faced court yesterday charged with intentionally causing serious injury to the 77-year-old woman.

The magistrate refused to grant Ms Tran bail, finding she presented a real risk of committing offences while on bail and endangering the safety of the public.

She has a diagnosis of schizophrenia and long history of drug abuse and mental illness.

The magistrate indicated her charge was to be upgraded to manslaughter or murder upon the death of the victim.

Ms Tran was remanded in custody to reappear in court in May.
