Western Australian widow narrowly escapes terrifying car crash into home

A Western Australian widow has narrowly survived a frightening car collision after the vehicle smashed through the front of her home and into her living room.

The 57-year-old woman, from Kalamunda east of Perth, was asleep on a couch in the room when the car ploughed into the home and became wedged in the spot she had been laying just moments before.

"We heard a screech and then a bang, so we came out of the house and as we came out, I saw a large cloud of dust," neighbour Colin Cockburn told 9News.

"She was on the opposite side of the wall on a couch apparently and obviously when the car hit the couch, she was just lying there dozing off."

Emergency SES crwes who attended the crash scene later spend close to an hour stabilising the home before the car was able to be towed out.

The woman was too shaken to comment on the incident, but told 9News her husband had recently passed away and she'd only just finished paying off the home.

It is believed the vehicle managed to veer onto the wrong side of the road, narrowly missing a power pole, before it crashed into the property.

The elderly driver of the vehicle lives on the same street as the woman, and escaped uninjured.
