South East Queensland braces for wild weather with approach of Cyclone Oma

South East Queensland is bracing for more wild weather as a tropical storm passes through the Pacific.

Cyclone Oma is already causing a big swell along the coast, and is expected to reach the Sunshine Coast, Brisbane and the Gold Coast in the coming days.

The category 3 cyclone is currently located east-northeast of Fiji and is producing winds of up to 120kph, the Fiji Meteorological Service reports.

For now, Brisbane residents can expect to enjoy mostly sunny weather with a top of 31 degrees.

Sydneysiders and Canberra locals will receive their share of the sunshine with a max of 29 and 33 respectively.

Melbourne residents are in for cloudy skies and a top of 31. A possible shower is forecast for Hobart and a high of 25 degrees.

In Adelaide and Perth, still more sunshine and a max of 35 and 31.

A possible thunderstorm is expected for Darwin, with residents due for 33-degree weather.
