Heavy fog shut down Sydney's ferry services as the harbour city woke to a thick blanket covering the skyline this morning.

The majority of ferry services both arriving and departing from Circular Quay were terminated at about 7am but are now operating again.

Earlier, Sydney Ferries urged passengers to "make alternative arrangements or allow plenty of extra travel time".

It comes as Sydney recorded its first rainless fortnight in two years.

The city has been rain free since May 20 and will likely remain that way until Sunday.

Weatherzone does not believe it will beat the next longest streak of 25 days from 2021 as there is plenty of wet weather expected in this coming week.

"Sydney's longest rainless streak was 48 days from July 17, 1995 to September 3, 1995."

Across the country, the capitals are looking fairly dry with tops of 22 in Sydney, 16 in Melbourne, 25 in Brisbane, 18 in Perth, 23 in Adelaide, 14 in Hobart, 19 in Canberra and 30 in Darwin expected.
