Flood warnings, rain and storms continue across East Coast

Flood warnings have been issued up and down the eastern seaboard of Australia as a rainy weather system hangs over multiple states.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) is warning that numerous rivers in NSW, Queensland and Victoria are at risk of flooding.

In NSW, the BoM said a low-pressure system in the state's west has brought widespread rain, showers, and thunderstorms to many areas with moderate to heavy falls across the eastern two-thirds of the state.

As a result, the NSW Central West, South West and Far West have been put on flood watch.

Heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected in the eastern half of the state into tomorrow.

Since Friday, Sydney's been hit with more than 100 millimetres of rain, with more than half of that falling over just a few hours, leaving roads in parts of city saturated.

State Emergency Service volunteers had already responded to 216 incidents in the last 24 hours to 8am.

NSW Flood warnings

Minor flood warnings have been issued for the:

• Orara River
• Colo River
• Macdonald River
• Castlereagh River
• Macquarie River to Bathurst
• Macquarie River downstream of Burrendong Dam
• Bogan River
• Lachlan River to Cotton's Weir
• Belubula River
• Mandagery Creek
• Tumut River
• Upper Murrumbidgee River to Burrinjuck Dam and Cooma Creek
• Queanbeyan and Molonglo Rivers
• Barwon River

Parts of Queensland, Victoria and Tasmania have also been issued with flood warnings.

Queensland

There are numerous warnings for thunderstorms and floods across Queensland, including a severe thunderstorm warning for Ipswich and South East Queensland.

Another thunderstorm was forecast to hit parts of the Darling Downs and Granite Belt.

Multiple rivers were also at risk of flooding across the state, with the following warnings issued:

• Moderate Flood Warning for the Bulloo River
• Moderate Flood Warning for the Moonie River
• Moderate Flood Warning for the Warrego River (QLD)
• Initial Minor Flood Warning for the Bremer River and Warrill Creek
• Minor Flood Warning for the Lower Barcoo River
• Minor Flood Warning for the Paroo River (QLD)
• Minor Flood Warning for the Upper Balonne River
• Final Flood Warning for the Weir River

An upper trough will bring isolated thunderstorms and scattered showers to the regions, which could cause flash flooding in the impacted areas.

Victoria

As the storm moves slowly south, Victoria has also been issued flood warnings for the Kiewra River.

The state will also be whipped by gale winds today on the East Gippsland Coast and strong winds on the West, Central and Central Gippsland Coast.

The winds will continue through to Sunday.

Tasmania

Tasmania has been issued severe weather warnings and flood warnings.

Severe weather will impact residents in the Furneaux Islands, North East, East Coast, North West Coast and parts of Central North, Central Plateau, Western and Midlands Forecast Districts.

The storm will bring intense heavy rainfall and damaging winds.

A Flood Watch warning is in place for North, North West, North East, South East, and Derwent Catchments.
