Watchdog wants citizenship loss laws fixed

The man responsible for monitoring Australia's national security legislation has demanded that aspects of existing terrorism laws be scrapped.

As the government attempts to make citizenship-stripping laws for dual national extremists even harsher, James Renwick has identified "uncontrolled and uncertain" aspects of existing legislation.

"I have concluded that these provisions do not pass muster under the (relevant) act and should, with some urgency, be repealed with retrospective effect," Dr Renwick said in a report tabled in parliament on Wednesday.
