Warning over Garmin software defect that could cause LED light to heat up in smartwatch
Popular smartwatch maker Garmin has been forced to issue an urgent software update to address a defect in two of its devices which could cause a LED light to heat up and burn wrists.
The LED light runs an Optical Heart Rate (OHR) sensor in the affected smartwatches which could short-circuit, an alert issued by Product Safety Australia said.
"There is a risk of skin irritation or blistering to the area of skin underneath the OHR sensor from the heat of the smartwatch LED," the alert said.

The warning relates to Garmin Venu 2 Plus devices, sold between November 8, 2021 and August 25, 2023 and Garmin D2 Air X10 devices, sold between January 24, 2022 to August 25, 2023.
Users of the devices have been urged to initiate a software update Garmin has released to address this issue.
"Consumers should connect/sync their affected Garmin smartwatch with the Garmin Connect mobile app to receive this update," Product Safety Australia said.
"The software update will be automatically downloaded without any interaction from the user when the smartwatch is connected to the Garmin Connect mobile app via the user's smartphone."
