A man has been found stabbed to death in the front yard of his home in the beachside suburb of Warana on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

Police believe Zdravko Bilic, 57, may have been killed after disturbing a suspected home invasion at his home on Napalle Street.

Police were called to the home on Napalle Street shortly after 7.30pm yesterday after a neighbour found Bilic's body with stab wounds to the abdomen.

Bilic's partner, skincare clinic founder Gry Susann Tomte, who was in Melbourne at the time, rang the neighbour to check on Bilic when she hadn't heard from him.

"One of the lines of inquiry is that he has disturbed a break-and-enter and we will continue to follow that and other investigative strategies," Detective Inspector Chris Toohey said.

"This is an attack that has happened and we need to find out why."
