Man faces court after being the 21st charged over Sydney church riot

A man has become the 21st person charged over a riot outside a western Sydney church that saw multiple police injured.

A large crowd gathered outside the Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Wakeley on the night of April 15 after Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel was allegedly stabbed by a teenager while giving a sermon.

A priest, Father Isaac Royel, was also injured.

Paramedics were forced to take shelter from the mob outside, while some police were injured during the confrontation.

Multiple people have since been arrested in connection with the riot.

A 20-year-old man was arrested in Bossley Park on May 20 and charged with rioting.

He was refused bail and faced court yesterday.

He was the 21st person charged in connection with the investigation, which continues.
