A Perth man who murdered a partygoer with a pair of scissors has failed in his bid to appeal his conviction.

Ashley James Gunson, 24, fatally stabbed 20-year-old Jamie Devine in the heart at a 21st birthday party in Atwell in January last year, and was sentenced to at least 15 years behind bars.

On Friday, the West Australian Court of Appeal dismissed his application for leave to appeal the conviction, saying none of the proposed grounds had a reasonable prospect of success.
