Perth will experience near-perfect conditions this Christmas, with a sunny 27C day forecast, but varied conditions are expected for the rest of the state.

Bureau of Meteorology spokesman Neil Bennett said Marble Bar, in the state's Pilbara region, would swelter through a 46C Christmas Day, while Kununurra, in the Kimberley region, could face possible thunderstorms.

The state's south is predicted to enjoy a mild Christmas Day, with Albany tipped to reach 19C before temperatures begin to rise through Boxing Day and into the New Year period.

Perth reached 40C on Wednesday afternoon, but a cool low pressure system moving east would cause an almost 12-degree drop before Christmas Eve, Mr Bennett said.

Surf Life Saving WA warns families planning on visiting the beach during the festive season to swim between the flags and stay hydrated.
