WA murder-accused son to get mental check

A 61-year-old Perth man accused of murdering his 81-year-old mother has been remanded to a psychiatric hospital for assessment after a brief court appearance.

Police and St John Ambulance officers were called to the Whitehaven Crescent home in Balga just before 6.30pm on Tuesday where Barbara Chokolich was found to have suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Steven John Chokolich appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Wednesday and was remanded to the Frankland Centre at Graylands Hospital until next week.
