WA Greens want brakes on ride-sharing levy

The West Australian government has been urged to scrap plans for a levy on Uber intended to create revenue to compensate taxi drivers.

Greens MLC Lynn MacLaren says she stands with the ride-sharing service, its drivers and the 30,000 users who signed a petition against the levy, which will be presented to Premier Colin Barnett on Friday.

She said the levy was not an appropriate way to help the taxi industry transition and the government had a responsibility to keep pace with developments brought on by market innovation.
