WA govt to remove limit for abuse victims

Laws to remove the six-year limit for child sex abuse victims to take legal action will be introduced into parliament, Premier Colin Barnett said.

The Liberal National government resisted introducing the laws in October during a debate drawing criticism from one of its own MPs, Liberal Graham Jacobs who drafted the bill on the issue.

The new laws would remove limitation periods for victims to take civil action against perpetrators and institutions and no cap would be placed on maximum damages that can be awarded to survivors, Mr Barnett said.
