Grandma's murder deeply affects WA family

The family of an elderly Perth woman believed to have been murdered during a home invasion say the unnecessary violence has destroyed them.

Valeria Fermendjin, 70, was found dead inside her home on Leach Highway in Melville on January 7.

In a statement on Friday, a family spokesperson said Ms Fermendjin lived a very simple life, had a small circle of friends and was especially close to her daughter, son-in-law and twin grandsons.

"Val lived for them and moved house so she could be closer to them so they could look after each other," they said.

"Most days, Val would take care of the boys either during the day or after school. She will be dearly missed by her loving family."

The spokesperson said the act of violence had deeply affected the family.

"Her twin grandsons will grow up without their Mumma and a daughter has to bury her mum before her time," they said.

"It is a very sad indication of the world we live in and the society around every home."

Police believe Ms Fermendjin died between 7.30am and 8.30am on January 5, and are still urging a man who contacted Crime Stoppers about 12.15pm on January 13 to again come forward.

The man provided information about activity he saw in the area and detectives are keen to clarify the details.
