A man accused of murdering his father and a neighbour in Perth's northern suburbs will face trial later this year.

Rainer Stefanski, 69, was allegedly assaulted by his son Jason Stefanski at his Woodvale home on September 6 and later died in hospital.

Neighbour Bill Butler, 68, died after intervening in the fight.

Provisional trial dates were set in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Monday, from November 30 to December 11.

Stefanski appeared via video link from Hakea Prison, where he has been detained since being assessed at the Frankland Centre, a secure psychiatric ward at Graylands Hospital.

His lawyer has previously told the court he would plead not guilty on the grounds of unsoundness of mind.

She indicated on Monday that Stefanski would seek a trial by judge alone.

Stefanski is scheduled to appear in court again on June 25 for a status conference.
