Two men stabbed after masked group storms home in axe attack

Two men have been left with serious injuries after four masked intruders armed with axes and machetes stormed a Perth home.

The group allegedly smashed through the front windows of a Currie Street home in Warnbro about 2.25am on Monday.

A fight broke out inside as the occupants tried to fend off the intruders.

A man in his 40s was stabbed in the chest and abdomen, while a man in his 50s suffered a stab wound to his lower back.

Neighbours recalled hearing yelling before one of the victims ran out into the street, covered in blood, going door to door begging for help.

“He said someone is trying to kill him, and he asked me to help him,” local resident Muhammad Zie said.

Another neighbour, Maggie Mackie, said one of the victims told her the intruders were carrying machetes.

“We are all scared,” another resident told 9News.

“We’ve never been in this sort of situation before, so we don’t know how to deal with the trauma of someone knocking on the door, bleeding quite heavily.”

Both victims were rushed to hospital with serious injuries but were expected to survive.

The four intruders fled the scene on foot and remained on the run.

Police revealed the home was targeted in a previous incident about 11pm on Saturday, when several people attempted to break in and smashed windows.

Investigators believe the gang used those same damaged windows to gain access on Monday morning.

“Incidents like this have no place in our community ... we understand this incident will leave many local residents feeling unsettled,” a police spokesperson said in a press conference on Monday.

“Someone out there knows exactly what happened, and we are asking them to come forward.”

Detectives say the attack was targeted and there is no ongoing threat to the broader community.
