A P-plater driver may need wrist surgery after a brick was thrown through the windscreen of his car from a Mandurah overpass.

The 19-year-old was driving along Mandurah Road towards the Gordon Street footbridge yesterday afternoon when the brick smashed through his windscreen.

The brick hit his hand while he tried to shield his face.

The teenager was on his way home from work and says he's now too scared to get behind the wheel.

Police are warning other drivers in the area to be alert.

Anyone who saw what happened should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
