School roof problem flagged: WA opposition

The West Australian opposition has accused the state government of failing to properly maintain a public school after part of a ceiling fell on two students.

A St John Ambulance spokesman said one child suffered minor injuries and was brought to Fiona Stanley Hospital as a precaution.

The other child was medically cleared at the scene, he said.

Both are aged five.

Opposition deputy leader Roger Cook said Labor had called "for some time" for the roof at the school in Medina to be fixed.

"It was built in the 1950s, the roof is pock-marked, it is covered in lichen and moss and so on, it is a school in need of resources and repair," he said.

"And it just seems to me that the government hasn't actually kept their eye on the ball in terms of the maintenance and ongoing upkeep of the school.

"This isn't good enough. This is a school in an established suburb in Perth. I mean, for heaven's sake."
