Broome suffers wettest month of all time - with town still cut off after two days

Powered by

It is Broome's wettest month of all time, with the pearling town copping an astonishing 942mm since the start of the year.

The previous record was set back in January in 1997 when it had 910mm.

It's also a one-in-100-year weather event, 697mm fell in 5 days - that's the most in a 5 day period since recordings began in 1897.

Roads are still under water in and around Broome with the community now cut off for 2 days.

The Great Northern Highway is closed from Sandfire to Willare to all vehicles, but is open from Fitzroy Crossing to Halls Creek to 4WDs and trucks.
