Police called as 200 punters swarm gates at Perth festival

Police had to be called to a music festival in Western Australia after hundreds of punters rushed the fence, totally overwhelming security staff.

It's estimated about 200 people swarmed the perimeter of Joondalup's Listen Out event this weekend, prompting the beleaguered security team to call the cops.

Some six squad cars arrived to help deal with the invasion at HBF Arena, which is unfortunately quite a familiar experience for local police.

The sold-out festival, now in its fourth year, has seen similar attempts by revellers to gain free entry, though none on this scale.

It's believed three people were arrested at Joondalup station over altercations with police, though no major injuries were reported.
