Perth woman critically injured in assault

A woman has been hospitalised with critical injuries after a serious assault in Perth's northern suburbs.

The woman was attacked in Balga just after 11pm on Thursday and detectives are examining the scene while questioning a man over the assault.

A police spokesman said reports the woman had been stabbed and struck with an axe were incorrect.
