Woman taken into custody after toddler assaulted in mum's arms

A 21-year-old woman has been taken into custody after a toddler was assaulted yesterday in Perth.

The two-year-old was in her mother's arms at a shopping centre in East Victoria Park yesterday afternoon when she was struck by a stranger.

CCTV captured the incident, and shows the pair being approached by a woman who lashes out before fleeing.

A two-year-old girl has been struck by a stranger as she was being carried in her mother's arms inside a WA shopping centre, with CCTV capturing the distressing incident. 9News

A 21-year-old woman was taken into custody at Mirrabooka Shopping Centre about 11.10am (2.10pm AEDT) in relation to the incident.

Her arrest comes after police announced they wished to speak to 21-year-old Pamila-Raye Jetta over the attack, and appealed for public help in finding her.

"Jetta is described as female, olive skin, 170cm tall, heavy build, shaved head and was last seen wearing green coloured shorts with white stripes, pink coloured singlet and blue trainers," police said.

"Jetta has also recently been observed wearing a fluorescent pink wig."

Police released two images of the 21-year-old.

Staff working in the surrounding shops say the attack happened incredibly quickly, one only hearing a scream from the mother, as nearby shoppers rushed to help.

The little girl has been left with facial injuries, as well as the mother and daughter being left shaken and scared by the incident.
