Grandfather jailed for life for murdering love rival after marriage of 40 years broke down

A Perth grandfather will likely live out his final years behind bars, after being jailed for murdering his love rival.

The axe rampage was captured on security cameras, and also left the 77-year-old's ex-wife and two good Samaritans injured.

A Supreme Court judge today jailed Etem Duga for life over the rampage at a Yokine apartment in 2016.

Justice Lindy Jenkins said he was motivated by jealousy, revenge, hatred and betrayal when his marriage of 40 years to Vickie Fidel broke down and she began a new relationship.

The court heard chilling details of how he disguised himself as a delivery man, as a ruse to get into Philip Fidel's apartment.

But he was armed with a tomahawk and knife, and used it to murder his ex-wife's new lover before chasing her down and attacking neighbours who tried to help.

His lawyer asked for a lighter sentence saying he had health problems and recently had part of his foot amputated.

But the judge refused jailing him for life with a minimum of 20 years, saying he'd shown no remorse.
