Paint hurled at Perth mosque

The vandalism of a Perth mosque is an isolated incident and not representative of the broader community, a local Muslim leader says.

But he says it's a reflection of "ill-content" in the community.

The Ar Rukun Mosque in the southern suburb of Rockingham was targeted by vandals some time between Sunday night and Monday afternoon, with white paint hurled over the front verandah, main doors and surrounding brickwork.

Imam Yahya Ibrahim said the incident was isolated and not a reflection of the broader Rockingham community.

He said the Islamic community had failed to communicate who and what they were and encourage people to visit the mosque.

"It's not really about the damage, it's more about the intention behind the message," he told Fairfax radio on Tuesday.

"Whether it's something minimal or greater, it's that there's ill-content and discontent in the community."

Other Perth mosques and Islamic schools have also been vandalised in recent months.

In one instance, "ban Islam" was daubed on the front wall of a mosque just days after a small group of anti-Muslim protesters disrupted a peaceful rally against Islamophobia in Perth's CBD.

In October, a multi-million dollar Sikh temple in the city's north was sprayed with offensive messages including "go home" and "Aussie pride".
