Man wrongly deemed dead in WA fire report

A man has been wrongly declared dead in an official report into January's Perth hills bushfire.

The State Emergency Management Committee's review of the bushfires, which razed 57 properties, incorrectly reported that a man was pronounced dead at hospital after falling from the roof of his home.

In a timeline of events, the report from June reads: "12:59 Ambulance advise that a person at the Parkerville bushfire has fallen through roof in Stoneville and is later pronounced deceased at hospital."

But The Sunday Times has contacted the 52-year-old man, who is very much alive and says authorities would have known that if they had followed up on his condition.

The man spent several days in the Royal Perth Hospital trauma unit with broken ribs and collapsed lungs, but his wife said he did not die.

"If that's going down in history, that's wrong," she said.

AAP could not reach the committee for comment on Sunday.
