A 28-year-old man who allegedly attacked a police officer with pepper spray and crashed a ute into a patrol car faces multiple charges.

Police on patrol saw the man, who was known to them and had two outstanding warrants, in the utility in the Thornlie area on Wednesday.

As officers tried to arrest him, the man allegedly sprayed one of the officers in the face with a liquid similar to pepper spray.

It's alleged he then reversed the vehicle at speed and crashed into the police car, before driving off.

Police say the sprayed officer went to hospital for medical treatment but has since been released.

The man was located in the same area on Thursday afternoon and taken into custody.

He has been charged with several offences including breach of bail, assault with intent to prevent arrest and reckless driving.

He is scheduled to appear in the Armadale Magistrates Court on Friday.
