Emotions were high inside the court room as the family of Justin Kickett waited to hear from the man alleged to have killed their son.

WA Police say the 42-year-old was crossing Leach Highway in Bateman last November when he was hit by a truck and left to die on the road.

Hours later a taxi driver found him badly injured, paramedics attended but he couldn't be saved.

The accused, Dean Paul Napier is charged with failing to report an incident causing death.

He appeared calm in Fremantle court today where his lawyer asked for more time.

When the magistrate granted the request, the victim’s mother screamed to the court "but that man killed my son".

It's alleged the 59-year-old truck driver hit the father of three and fled the scene, however police say it's possible he may not have known he hit someone.

Napier was released on bail and will be back in court next month.
