A Good Samaritan has been assaulted and knocked unconscious, after interrupting a gang of thugs during an attempted home invasion in Perth's southeast.

Gerald Clousely, 59, said he heard the gang of youths trying to bash down his neighbour's back door around 6pm yesterday.

"I basically just raced out of the house and straight round to their back door where I was met by the offenders," he told 9NEWS.

"The tall guy punched me a couple of times in the face, and I fell backwards."

Mr Clousely's head hit the brick pavers.

"I was knocked unconscious," he said.

"I don't know how long I was out, it sort of took me a few attempts to get up."

The gang managed to kick in the back door, but took off empty handed.

Police are now searching for the three boys, the youngest believed to be just eight years old.

All three are described as dark skinned and of slim build. The oldest teen was wearing a red hooded jumper and red cap.

The incident is the latest in a spate of crimes on Nyran Place, where residents reported eleven cars and at least one home has been broken into in less than a week.
