Easter blitz targets WA country road toll

Extra speed cameras will be stationed in regional Western Australia over Easter after 11 fatalities on country roads on the Labour Day long weekend.

Six additional speed cameras will be deployed to monitor traffic heading to popular country destinations, along with booze buses, marked and unmarked patrol cars, motorcycles and covert hoon and long range cameras.

Of the 46 fatalities on WA roads so far this year, 35 have been in regional areas, according to the Road Safety Commission.

Last year, the number of deaths on the state's country roads totalled 87, compared to 74 in Perth.
